Long-time Days of our Lives fans can rejoice! After the loss of several favorites, including super couple John Black and Marlena Evans (played by Drake Hogestyn and Deidre Hall), a new September 2011 promo from Soap Opera Network shows a reunion that won’t disappoint and teases of some sizzling plot twists and surprises that promises to keep viewers glued to the screen. Get your DVRs ready, because this September you’re not going to want to miss a second of what this sudsy drama has to offer!
Carrie and Austin
The promo doesn’t tease too much of Carrie Brady (played by Christie Clark) and Austin Reed’s (Patrick Muldoon) return other than the two of them sprouting up excitedly from behind a balcony during an event paying tribute to Tom and Alice Horton (played by the late and much beloved Macdonald Carey and Frances Reid). In the brief clip, Carrie and Austin arrive to cheers from friends and family and Carrie’s sister Sami Brady (played by Alison Sweeney) stands by her husband Rafe Hernandez (played by Galen Gering) as she exclaims, “It’s Carrie and Austin!” seeming pleased by their arrival. During Carrie and Austin’s time on the show, the main obstacle the couple faced in their courtship came from Sami as she was in love with her sister’s boyfriend and constantly schemed to keep the lovers apart. However, Sami has since transformed from villain to protagonist, marrying Rafe Hernandez (who the show has portrayed as the ultimate love of Sami’s life) and reconciling with Carrie. Being that Austin and Carrie left the show happily married, one must wonder what storyline they will be given and if Sami will be involved.
John and Marlena
One of the most popular couples in the show’s history is that of John Black and Marlena Evans. Fans were crushed when the duo was written off of Days of our Lives in 2009 with John paralyzed. In the promo, John and Marlena arrive with John in a wheelchair. Friends and family applaud their arrival and Sami (who is the daughter of Marlena and the stepdaughter of John) appears to have tears of joy brimming behind her eyes and Carrie clutches her sister elatedly at the arrival.
The merriment seems to be short-lived, however, when John (now standing from the wheelchair) is shown being arrested by none other than Sami’s husband!
“John Black, you’re under arrest,” Rafe says the statement void of emotion.
Sami appears both confounded and infuriated. “Have you all gone crazy?” she cries.
“Rafe’s just doing his job,” John says, attempting to temper Sami before being dragged away in handcuffs.
Jack/Jen/Daniel Triangle
Fans were outraged when the character of Jennifer Horton (played by Melissa Reeves) returned to Salem sans Jack Deveraux (played by Matthew Ashford). Even more appalling was that Jack had—according to Jennifer—left her high and dry when he went on a walkabout in Australia to “find himself” and didn’t even attempt to contact Jennifer when she had almost died from having her heart removed in a black market operation.
Jack and Jennifer began their romance in the early 90’s and were instantly named as a super couple and fan favorite. Many fans felt betrayed to have Jack portrayed as a heartless jerk who would not so much as call his estranged wife when she was on death’s door. Fortunately, with Jack’s return, there is now an opportunity for the character to redeem himself.
Jennifer has currently filed for divorce from Jack and moved on with Daniel Jonas (played by Shawn Christian). The couple most recently admitted they both loved each other before sharing a passionate embrace. In the promo, Daniel and Jennifer are on the pier. Daniel gazes at Jen ardently and proclaims, “I am crazy about you.” It is at that point that Jack decides to drop in on them…literally. Jack has been eavesdropping on the couple and appears to have gone overboard in his attempt to listen in as he leans too far from a railing and dives headfirst into a mountainous cake situated next to Daniel and Jen.
“Jack!” Jen screams, agape at her husband’s unexpected return.
A smile spreads across Jack’s face, which is now covered in a thick mask of yellow icing. “Hi Jennifer,” he says.
Surprise Proposal
Though on today’s episode of Days of our Lives Maggie Horton (played by Suzanne Rogers) flat-lined after being rushed to the hospital from a shooting, it appears that she will survive and that her relationship with Victor Kiriakis (played by John Aniston) will be taken to new heights! In the promo, Victor is seen leading his beloved Maggie by the arm to a patio area, saying, “There’s something I want to show you.” Against the black night sky, the words “Will you marry me?” are displayed. “Please do me the honor of becoming my wife,” Victor says, opening a small velvet box to reveal a lavish engagement ring. Maggie’s face reads of nothing by tearful exultation, so one can assume she accepts his proposal.
Mayor DiMera?
In a perplexing turn of events, it appears that EJ DiMera (played by James Scott) will announce his run for mayor of Salem. Being that EJ is hated by most of Salem, has kidnapped his own children, and once replaced Sami Brady’s husband Rafe Hernandez with a lookalike after wiping out Rafe’s memories among other things, one may not expect EJ to receive many votes in the election.
